"Streetstyle: The Monster That Ate Fashion Week"

Paris Fashion Week 2011

Reading articles on Style.com today, I came across some really interesting reads. The one that caught my attention most was What is Up with Street-Style Photography?. Any blogger or reader knows that Street-Style is a huge part of the blogosphere right now, and has been for some time.

When I first started Quench Fab over a year ago, I found street chic really inspiring. I live in Detroit, and I carry my Nikon D3100 around in case I ever see someone dressed to the nines or even someone who is completely dressed down but looks fabulous to add to my blog. I've come across a few people who's style I liked, but mainly, I have to leave the city limits to find people who dress really unique. I hope I can add more street-style posts to Quench Fab really soon!

At any rate, I always loved going to different blogs and magazine sites to see who they photographed for their street style section. The fact that this story was written is kind of interesting because I was under the impression that magazines do street style sections to stay in-the-know about what's being worn by the public and how they're wearing it. How they're interpreting the trends and making them their own.

GQ's Will Welch is of the opinion that the fashionistas "are piling on trends to get photographed outside of the shows and that they look ridiculous". If this is true, it kind of defeats the point, doesn't it? If their just wearing everything the magazines already have reported, it doesn't give an interesting angle if people are just "piling on trends", does it?

Is Street-style photography already dying? At fashion week, at least? I guess we'll see this month. I'm going to definitely touch back on this topic once more bloggers and sites post street-style photographs. I want to know you guy's opinion, as well.
